A Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport aircraft at Rankin Inlet in the Northwest Territories, after dropping supplies to a British Trans-Arctic Expedition at the North Pole. (1969)


The British Expedition was walking across the Arctic Ice Cap from Point Barrow, Alaska to Spitzbergen, Norway.

On June 14, 1969, Mobile Command staged a mock battle at CFB Petawawa in Ontario. Spectators included Governor General Roland Michener and Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.

More "Operation Nimrod Caper" photographs, taken in March of 1969 in Jamaica. One thousand Canadian soldiers participated in the militiary training exercise. The men were from the Royal Canadian Regiment, Mobile Command and Air Transport Command.
