National Capital Commission controversies.

1.) The Crown corporation is permitting the construction of high rise condominiums on the Lebreton Flats. The only buildings allowed on the Lebreton Flats are federal buildings including museums and libraries and they cannot be any taller than the Peace Tower.

"LeBreton Flats should remain public property and be devoted entirely to public and social use. The NCC does not own the Flats in the private property sense. It holds them in trust for us." From: The Province. Lindsay Lambert, Ottawa, August 5, 2020.

2.)  Government of Canada land is being taken over for an LRT project--- along Baseline Road, the scenic driveways and eventually Carling Avenue and Confederation Heights.

3.) Foreign entities are involved in a project to redesign the Parliamentary Precinct, comprised of Wellington Street properties across from Parliament Hill and the entire Sparks Street Mall.

4.) The British High Commission is constructing an embassy on the grounds of Earnscliffe, 140 Sussex Drive, where Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald lived for years. Prime Ministers John Diefenbaker, Lester Pearson and Joe Clark wanted to see Earnscliffe returned to the people of Canada.

5.) The Crown corporation missed an opportunity to buy a landmark in Chinatown. The city recently gave away the Dalhousie Community Centre located at 755 Somerset Street West.

6.) There is massive opposition to the redevelopment of the Central Experimental Farm. The following individuals wanted the National Historic Site to always be a green space:

Prime Ministers of Canada William Lyon Mackenzie King; Sir Wilfrid Laurier; Louis St-Laurent; Pierre Trudeau and Brian Mulroney.

The Hon. Anne Cools: "The public fears that many other parklands, like the Experimental Farm and the Arboretum are on the National Capital Commission's list for sale." Senate of Canada, April 23,2002.

10.)  Government of Canada property is being sold for one dollar---the Mackenzie King and Laurier Avenue bridges that span the Rideau Canal.(1995.)     401 Lebreton/289 Carling, NCC Headquarters.
