The Campanile Campus, Ottawa.

The Campanile Campus at 1495 Heron Road was also known as the Federal Study Centre. According to Heritage Ottawa:
"Designed by Ottawa architect Tim Murray, the sizable complex was comprised of twelve interconnected Pavilions arranged around a chapel and four small courtyards, each one devoted to the academic, the administrative, the novitiate and the monastic."
The Canadian government bought the former Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame campus  in 1973. (For more detailed information about the Campanile complex, read: "Church in Alta Vista now sits like a ghost town, its future uncertain" by Lisa Gregoire: Photography: Marc Fowler. Posted in ottawamagazine.com October 4, 2017.)

The word "campanile" is a medieval Latin word meaning "bell tower" or "belfry".

The former Summerhill Train Station tower is similar in design to the Campanile di San Marco bell tower in Venice, Italy. The real estate arm of the Canadian Pacific Railway wanted to demolish the Summerhill Train Station during the early 1970's. But nearby residents fought the CPR and Marathon Realty, see the book "Marlborough Marathon-One Street Against a Developer" by J.L. Granatstein. The Liquor Control Board of Ontario owns the landmark--- fortunately the building is still public property, because the LCBO is a provincial Crown corporation.

An Update - Properties that the Federal Government of Canada wanted to sell in 2007.

1.) Constitution Building - 305 Rideau Street Ottawa - recently transferred to the Canada Lands Company.

2.) Major General G.R. Pearkes Building, 101 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa - 10,000 DND employees were relocated to the former Nortel campus.

3.) The Sir Charles Tupper Building, Sir Leonard Tilley Building and the Taxation Data Centre will be demolished, prior to the massive redevelopment of the 257-acre Confederation Heights campus. tThe CBC Headquarters may be spared; however, once a federal building is privatized, it loses all heritage designation and protection. The Taxation Data Centre encompasses 150 acres of land.
I am generally opposed to the sale of public property to private real estate companies, who turned the Toronto waterfront into a concrete jungle. Who appeal to the Ontario Municipal Board, when city councillors object to their zoning and density changes.
The Sir Leonard Tilley Building and the CBC Building at 1500 Bronson are vacant.

5.) RCMP National Headquarters, 1200 Vanier Parkway Ottawa - Thousands of RCMP staff are moving to a rented space at JDS Uniphase. Public Works Canada is "currently reviewing options for the future use of the asset and, as such, a new tenant has not been identified." (From: "Thousands of buildings owned by Ottawa are crumbling and need repair database shows" by Diana Zlomislic, thestar.com; April 21, 2012.)
1200 Vanier Parkway is more than "an asset"---the RCMP Headquarters are Crown property, collectively owned by the People of Canada; named in honour of L.H. Nicholson, the first Commissioner of the RCMP; and designated a heritage property by Parks Canada.

RCMP National Headquarters - 1983.
6..) Thomas d'Arcy McGee Building - 90 Sparks Street Ottawa. Sold to Larco Investments, the same real estate entity that bought:
The Chateau Laurier Hotel Ottawa - A Canadian National Railway hotel.
Fairmont Hotel Vancouver - a CNR and Canadian Pacific Railway Hotel.
The Dominion Public Building on Front Street in Toronto, near Union Station. The landmark houses the Canada Revenue Agency and other departments; in a few years the government employees will be evicted from the site.
Canada Revenue Agency Montreal Building.
Harry Hays Federal Building - Calgary - Canada Revenue Agency, other departments.
Joseph Shepard Federal Building - Toronto- Canada Revenue Agency, other departments.
Canada Place Federal Building - Edmonton - Canada Revenue Agency, other departments.
Skyline Towers 1 to V11 - 1400 Merivale Road Ottawa.

7.) Lester B. Pearson Building - 125 Sussex Drive Ottawa.

8.) Sir William Logan Building, 580 Booth Street Ottawa.

9.) Place du Portage - Phase 1 and 2 - 50 Victoria Street, Hull sector of Gatineau, Quebec.

10.) Place du Portage - Phase 111 - 11 Laurier Street Hull.

11.) Place du Portage - Phase 1V - Promenade du Portage Hull.

12.) Gatineau Preservation Centre - 625 Boulevard du Carrefour, Gatineau.

13.) National Printing Bureau - 45 Sacre-Coeur Boulevard, Gatineau.

14.) Asticou Centre - 241 Boulevard de la Cite-des-Jeunes. - A public service training centre in Hull, Quebec, built on a 64-acre parcel of land.

15.) West Memorial Building, Ottawa and East Memorial Building - Wellington Street in Ottawa.

16.) The 111 Sussex Complex - Also known as "Green Island".

The sale of Canadian Crown property.

The "various federal real estate holdings" included 100,000 acres of land and irreplaceable railway stations. At one point, plans were underway to demolish Ottawa's Union Station, now known as The Conference Centre.
A Privy Council Order-in-Council, approved by the Governor General of Canada, that resulted in the privatization of part of RCAF/CFB Downsview in Toronto, Ontario.
The Privy Council Orders-in-Council that resulted in the loss (to the People of Canada) of the Canadian National Railway hotels. Our Taj Mahal's. Empire State Buildings and Palaces of Versailles. (1988).
Ottawa Journal article about The Farm - 1974.
Ottawa's Experimental Farm - 1983.
Another Order-in-Council. This time, 91 acres of Experimental Farm land in Ottawa were sold in 1988. Federal Agriculture Ministers Bud Olson and Eugene Whelan resisted pressure from National Capital Commission Chairman Doug Fullerton to sell a large portion of the Farm to real estate entities, the Ministers said the Farm was "untouchable."

How disrespectful.

"New Canadians take citizenship oath on CN Tower Edgewalk."( CTV News)
A federal government building in Toronto should have been the venue where new Canadians swear their Oath of Allegiance to the Crown. Such as the majestic Dominion Public Building on Front Street. Oh, I forgot, the Dominion Public Building was sold a few months ago.
In Ottawa, new Canadians can take the Oath in a Government of Canada building---L'Esplanade Laurier or the C.D. Howe Building for example. People from other countries should respect our traditions, our Maple Leaf Flag, and our history. I did not see any Maple Leaf Flag displayed on the CN Tower outdoor platform.
Perhaps I am showing my advanced age. Maybe the words patriotism and nationalism are not as meaningful as they once were. In 1967, a few of my schoolmates and I actually cried when we sang "O Canada" and the Bobby Gimby song "Can-a-da" during assemblies. Our National Flag was prominently displayed in every classroom. Teachers accompanied us on visits to the Parliament Buildings, Experimental Farm, the Dominion Observatory, and Expo 67 in Montreal. The Dominion Observatory telescope was still functioning during the 1960's. I wore a dress, white gloves, a hat, black patent leather shoes and white socks whenever I attended church.

The denationalization of military hospitals and veteran's housing units.

The federal government of Canada devolved 18 Veterans hospitals to the provinces. Other Veterans Affairs properties were privatized.
Ste. Anne's Hospital Montreal - transferred a few years ago to the Province of Quebec.
National Defence Medical Centre Ottawa: $250,000 dollars were recently spent by the Government of Canada to repair the hospital before it is privatized. Why are tax payers of Canada  responsible for repairing buildings that will most likely be demolished and for re mediating industrial land, so the land will be pristine for real estate billionaires. Years ago, American President Donald Trump bought re mediated Canadian National Railway land at Bay and Adelaide Streets in Toronto, to build a Trump Tower.
National Defence Medical Centre - 1983.
Rideau Veterans Home- 363 Smyth Road Ottawa - Record of Public Comments:
"Smyth Road is already too busy."
"There is already spillover parking from the hospital into the neighbourhood. If development proposes an office building, there must be sufficient on-site parking."
"Will water table be reduced? Impact on pond south of Smyth Road."
"Do not want a sound wall along Smyth Road as it would not be in keeping with the character of the community. The new units should front Smyth Road, and "suffer" like the existing residents."
"Width of the single family lots are too narrow, not in character with the community."
"Development of the site means a loss of a large parcel of open space owned by the Crown."
"Development will put a strain on school space."
"Concern that after land is sold, the developer may want it zoned for denser development."
"This is Crown land - our land - there should be no rush to develop it."
(From:" [PDF] That council give draft approval to the proposed subdivision at 363...")

Submission on Canada Lands project - 363 Smyth Road, Ottawa.
"It is apparent that the consensus from the residents in the surrounding communities was overwhelmingly negative.  The only beneficiaries will be Canada Lands and the developers who are contracted to do the development...This totally unnecessary and unwanted project has now been approved over our heads by the City."

Update - The Old Port of Montreal.

A founder of the Cirque du Soleil wants to build two pyramid-shaped entertainment centres next to the Clock Tower, in the Old Port of Montreal. The psychedelic pyramids will be similar to the Luxor pyramid hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Luxor Sky Beam is the most powerful beam of light on the planet; the Sky Beam woke astronauts who were travelling in outer space.
Pyramids like the Great Pyramid of Giza are rumored to be portals or stargates to another dimension. The astronomer Carl Sagan said there were pyramids on Mars. I believe that Mars has already been colonized. The so-called elite---royalty, musicians, billionaires and politicians---will take over distant planets. Ordinary people will used to mine the resources and serve their masters, and women will be exploited when they are used as reproduction vessels or surrogate mothers.
Cirque du Soleil's Guy Laliberte spent twelve days in space aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft.  Magician Criss Angel performs at the Luxor Hotel and he is affiliated Cirque du Soleil.

Is there a nefarious reason why the following Crown assets were privatized:
Telesat Canada
CN Tower Toronto - a communications tower and tourist attraction.
600 Canadian Broadcasting Corporation transmission towers and thousands of transmitters.
The Gonzales Observatory in Victoria, BC. The Ottawa Dominion Observatory telescope was decommissioned.
NATO Satellite Ground Terminal-Folly Lake, Halifax.
Naval Radio Station Albro Lake - Halifax.
Canadian Defence Minister Paul Hellyer,( left) and my Dad, George Shaw( right) on Parliament Hill Ottawa, during the 1960's. Mr. Hellyer stated in 2014 that he believed in the existence of extraterrestrials, from other star systems and planets. And that aliens have been visiting the planet Earth.

The Clock Tower is a cenotaph, a memorial to Canadian sailors. All cenotaphs in Canada have buffer zones---is it really appropriate to build a casino/night club/hotel next to a memorial.
Also, the Old Port of Montreal is near the Lachine Canal, a National Historic Site of Canada and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As if that matters, to the so-called guardians of my heritage, the policy makers at Parks Canada. Who turned the Plains of Abraham into another Woodstock.

People who are opposed to converting the Old Port of Montreal into another Las Vegas:

PETITION
E-1667 (Commercial Development of Land)
Petition to Justin Trudeau
Initiated by Linda Collette from Montreal, Quebec  May 23, 2018.
Whereas:

  • The Canada Lands Company (CLC) presented a "Preliminary Master Plan for the Revitalization of the Old Port of Montreal."
  • This plan profoundly changes the use of the Clock Tower Quay, which runs along the river and is home to the Clock Tower, a historic and iconic monument of Old Montreal.
  • This plan provides for the construction of a number of buildings that would block one of the rare view of the river and increase the amount of concrete and heat islands;
  • This plan involves handing over a large portion of the Clock Tower Quay to the private sector for businesses, restaurants, a hotel and a multi-level parking garage, which will create serious traffic and safety problems.
We, the undersigned Citizens of Canada call upon Member of Parliament Justin Trudeau to order:
1.) That CLC not be allowed to privatize the use of the Clock Tower Quay area;
2.) That CLC revise its plan to better integrate it with the City of Montreal, particularly as regards planning and safety;
3.) That CLC showcase the Clock Tower historic monument;
4.) That the Clock Tower Quay become a harbourfront pedestrian park that maximizes views of the river and green spaces while giving priority to public transit;
5.) That any redevelopment be done according to sustainable development principles.
Petition presented to the House of Commons on October 5, 2018.

The privatization of Expo 67
Montreal Mayor Jean Drapeau wanted to preserve all the pavilions, La Ronde and the minirail. But federal politicians interfered with that plan. The Mulroney government sold Habitat for $10 million dollars, and an American amusement park company bought La Ronde. The French pavilion is a casino. Cite du Havre was a site for Expo 67 pavilions.

Various government holdings.

A republic is defined as "a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives":
If my country was independent:
1.) The Canadian National Railway would still be a Crown corporation, known as "The People's Railway". Dame Moya Greene and the CN Real Estate are responsible for the sale of 100,000 acres of CNR land, thousands of railway stations, bridges, dams, hotels, tunnels, roundhouses, CN Towers in Toronto, Saskatoon, Edmonton and London, Ontario, transportation infrastructure.... After hollowing out the CNR, Dame Moya Greene became the head of the Royal Mail in England, where she basically sold off Royal Mail property, fought with unions and laid off thousands of employees.

3.)  The will of the people should be respected regarding the sale of Crown property. The Governor-General of Canada, who is the Monarch's representative in this country, signs the Privy Council Orders-in-Council that denationalize government land and buildings.
One of the Privy Council Orders-in-Council that resulted in the transfer of the massive CFB Downsview.
Crown property that was denationalized:
The CN Tower, Toronto.
Military bases in Ottawa; Toronto; Calgary, Moncton; Pleasantville; St. Hubert; London, Ontario; Jericho Beach, Vancouver; Kapyong Barracks, Winnipeg; Chilliwack BC; Shannon Park, Halifax; CFB Namao, Alberta; CFB Edmonton; CFS Albro Lake...
Prisons and Corrections Canada Headquarters - Prison for Women, Kingston Ontario; Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Penitentiary, Laval Quebec; Corrections Canada buildings in Kingston; soon (?) Kingston Penitentiary.
Offices - CN offices, London, England.
Museums - Old War Museum, Sussex Drive Ottawa.

Hotels (CNR) - Scribe Hotel, Paris France; Chateau Laurier, Ottawa; Hotel Macdonald Edmonton; Queen Elizabeth Hotel Montreal (where John Lennon and Yoko Ono sang and recorded "Give Peace a Chance"); Bessborough Hotel Saskatoon; Jasper Park Lodge; Hotel Vancouver; Fort Garry Hotel Winnipeg;

The following train stations were slated for demolition at one time: Windsor Station in Montreal; Conference Centre in Ottawa; Union Station in Toronto; Summerhill Station in North Toronto.

4.)CPR land, hotels and buildings would have returned to the Crown. Sir John A. Macdonald, Prime Minister of Canada, gave the Canadian Pacific Railway $25 million dollars and 25 million acres of land, on the condition that any railway property that was no longer needed by the railway would  return to the Crown.
Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau wanted to see Canadian Pacific Railway property in Banff Alberta
returned to the Crown:

Reversionary land in Banff, Alberta.
. Gordon Campbell became a High Commissioner to Great Britain, and he sold a Canadian Embassy called Macdonald House in London, England for half a billion dollars, to a Mumbai-based company.

Hotels (CPR) - Royal York Toronto; Banff Springs Hotel; Chateau Lake Louise; Palliser Hotel Calgary (a tunnel connected to the Palliser Hotel to a CPR train station across the street. The station was demolished to make way for the Calgary Tower.) Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City; Empress Hotel, Victoria BC.

5.)
"Let the Future Begin" 1997.
The politicians and agencies that want to denationalize Crown property always say "A country does not need bricks and mortar to govern." (The Fraser Institute; "Let the Future Begin" document).
I have compiled a list of properties that Canadians will lose, to foreign billionaires like Bill Gates; royalty and countries like India and China that need land to grow food and bio-fuel for their own people:
The List
All the National Parks - a secret memo revealed that Parks Canada may sell $8 billion dollars worth of property, including bridges, roads, highways, nature trails, culverts, etc.

Experimental Farms - experimental farms in Levis Quebec; Charlottetown Prince Edward Island; Delhi Ontario. Eventually all experimental farms will be gone.
Royal Canadian Mint - Ottawa and Winnipeg.
Revenue Canada Building, the Connaught Building Ottawa, which resembles a castle.
The Plains of Abraham, Quebec City, Quebec.
Fort Henry, Kingston Ontario.
Martello Towers

Penitentiaries - Kingston Pen; Collins Bay Institution; Millhaven; Dorchester Pen in New Brunswick and Stony Mountain in Manitoba will be gone. Literally. Federal properties lose all heritage designation when they are transferred.
Canada Place, Vancouver - constructed for Expo '86, the pavilion features iconic sails.
Campuses that house Government of Canada departments - the Booth Street Complex; Tunney's Pasture and Confederation Heights, all in Ottawa, will be taken over.
The Booth Street Complex, Ottawa in 1983.
Thousands more Government of Canada buildings will be sold. The Higginbotham Dominion Building, Lethbridge Alberta is currently on the market.

Dominion Observatories
More Crown corporations will be privatized, including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Canada Post will be sold off. CBC executives Robert Rabinovitch and Carole Taylor planned to transfer all the CBC television and radio archives to the British Broadcasting Corporation. As if the people of Britain would be interested in Front Page challenge, Hockey Night in Canada; Ian and Sylvia and Anne Murray specials; This Hour has Seven Days, and Take 30...American media titan Barry Diller was interested in obtaining the CBC's 600 transmission towers and thousands of transmitters. Canadians will never know if Barry Diller bought the communications infrastructure, because of a non-disclosure agreement. I wonder how much money we have to fork over for reruns of Coronation Street.
The Fraser Institute has been calling for the devolution/sale of federal property for years, see the following documents:
Fraser Institute document.
Fraser Institute document.

Health Canada Laboratories - currently on the market, a lab near Winnipeg's Royal Canadian Mint.

A true Canadian would never have abandoned our 1,000 National Lighthouses. Fisheries and Oceans Canada privatized the entire lighthouse portfolio.
I am in front of the Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, Nova Scotia.-2015.
Forestry Canada - The Forintek Building on 800 Montreal Road Ottawa is gone. Now the land has been sold.

Canadian Embassies - Dozens of Canadian embassies are gone. Now Great Britain and Canada share space and services in embassies throughout the world, see the newspaper article "Canada, U.K. to cut costs by sharing embassies abroad" (thestar.com, 2012). "Saving money" is always touted as a reason for denationalizing Crown assets. The terms "national sovereignty"; "public accountability" and "public service" are not used. The Crown corporations Canada Post, Canadian National Railway and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation were created to serve the people of this nation, and to unite us... From coast to coast to coast. The people of Churchill, Manitoba were isolated for a year and a half because a railway sold the only tracks in the vicinity to an American company that refused to repair the tracks. Thankfully, the government of Canada recently bought the railway tracks and many members of the community cried tears of joy and held a street party, after the restoration of rail service.

The CN Tower, Toronto - Millions of tax dollars were spent to build the communications tower/tourist attraction. As I have said before, Walt Disney Corporation and Viacom wanted to buy the tower a decade ago. I would not be surprised if  the Sirius Satellite corporation buys the landmark. Of course, we will never know who the buyer is, because of non-disclosure agreements.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada - The DFO is moving a Coast Guard base in Kingston, Ontario so the CLC can redevelop the Kingston Penitentiary; DFO lands, and a city-owned park that was a gift to the people of Kingston, from Ontario tax payers, during the 1976 Olympics. The Kingston Penitentiary was a National Historic Site of Canada and a Classified Federal Heritage Building. A  Kingstonian plans to convert the Prison for Women into condominiums.
A Fisheries and Oceans property in Vancouver, BC.

Fronting on Front Street and Spadina Avenue.
Mile 4.03 - North Toronto, Shaw Street.
Parkdale Yards, Fronting King Street.
Summerhill Train Station - CPR wanted to bulldoze the building to create space for 700 houses. But they faced tremendous opposition from the community, a saga that is documented in the 1971 book "Marlborough Marathon - One Street Against a Developer" by Canadian historian J.L. Granatstein.
Royal York Hotel
Union Station -  may have been converted to "Metro City". Eventually the City of Toronto bought the irreplaceable landmark.
Roy Thomson Hall was built on CPR land.
West Toronto Yard - Keele and West Toronto.

3.) Calgary, Alberta
(Telecommunications Buildings Site) A parcel of land at the South East corner of 2nd Street S.E. and 9th Avenue S.E. Book value - $1.00 dollar.

The hollowing out of the Canada Post Corporation.

A Fraser Institute wish list. Don't worry, Fraser Institute, many of your recommendations have been carried out. The CBC has been de-listed from the Federal Directory of Real Property. Hundreds of Canada Post  buildings are gone, and I suspect that the CP property in Confederation Heights Ottawa is on the hit list.

Give Canada back to Canadians.

Government leaders---return our landmarks, Dominion Buildings, bridges, museums, CN Tower...
1.) Encourage the United Nations to designate the Village of Portsmouth in Kingston a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

2.) Deactivate the Canada Lands Company. The term "surplus land" is an oxymoron. The Canadian National Railway should never have been privatized in the first place, we are still paying for that folly---residents of Churchill, Manitoba were isolated for a year and a half because CN Rail sold the railway tracks to a Denver-based company that couldn't be bothered to repair the tracks. Bill Gates refuses to repair a bridge in Montreal. CN Rail is a multinational conglomerate, they care about money, their investors; they couldn't care less if their actions negatively affect the citizens of my country. The CNR was our Jewel in the Crown, "The People's Railway".

3.) Return the 1,000 lighthouses to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Otherwise, the lighthouses will be vulnerable to deterioration.

4.) Do not listen to the Fraser Institute and KPMG, the entities that want to see the denationalization  of GOC properties including our National Parks.

5.) Do not demolish any more buildings at the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Pen in Laval, Quebec. The prison was a filming location for several movies, and the site could be transformed into a popular tourist attraction.

6.) Abolish the Office of the Governor General of Canada and the Queen's Privy Council of Canada. We are no longer a colony of Great Britain.

7.) If our land is sold, make the process transparent. Crown buildings and land are currently sold through Privy Council Orders in Council. Newspaper reporters have to file Freedom of Information requests, and rely on whistle blowers, to find out if government property is being divested. And that is often after the fact, when it is too late to stop the process. A secret memo revealed the fact that $8 billion dollars worth of Parks Canada property may be sold.

The CN Tower is non-federal owned.

Canada's National Parks in British Columbia should be transferred to the province- Fraser Institute.

Canadian National Parks in British Columbia:
Yoho National Park
Kootenay National Park
Glacier National Park
Mount Revelstoke National Park
Pacific Rim National Park
Gulf Islands National Park
Gwaii Haanas National Park

The Government of Canada recently announced that $8.3 billion dollars worth of property in the parks will be sold off, including bridges, dams, highways, roads and nature trails. It is time for the United Nations to rescue Crown property from the vultures who are currently profiting from the sale of my land, buildings and infrastructure...Several parks in the Northwest Territories and Alberta are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. In a participatory democracy, the people of Canada would be consulted before their land is sold. There would be debates in the House of Commons; polls; referendums. American President Obama used Executive Orders to sell federal property. In Canada, Executive Orders are called Federal Orders-in-Council; Orders-in-Council facilitated the sale of everything from Experimental Farm land in Ottawa to 1,000 acre military bases. I know, I spent years poring over books and documents in libraries and the Dominion Archives.
Because I care. Because I want future generations to have the opportunity to visit our national parks and not see "Private Property" and "No Trespassing" signs. Because I want Canadians to marvel at the architecture of Kingston Penitentiary, and the Chateau Laurier and the thousands of other endangered buildings in this country. Because the Dominion Observatory in Ottawa should never have been decommissioned, and the Gonzales Observatory in Victoria B.C. should never have been sold. As a 14-year-old I gazed at the universe through a Dominion Observatory telescope, and that experience is etched in my mind.

Why does Canada still have a Governor General?
The autocratic Privy Council Orders in Council are approved and signed by the Governor General, who is the Queen's representative in Canada. I thought The Constitution Act of 1982 was Canada's Declaration of Independence. (I was on Parliament Hill in  and saw the Queen sign the Constitution Act of 1982.) Canada was given legal autonomy as a self-governing Dominion. A foreign power or entity should not have the power to sell our:
National Parks
Penitentiaries - New Westminster, BC; Prison for Women, Kingston; Kingston Penitentiary; Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, Laval, Quebec.
Museums - Old War Museum, Sussex Drive Ottawa.
Veterans Hospitals - Smyth Road Ottawa; Senneville Lodge in Quebec; George Derby lands, BC.
 Fisheries and Oceans rescue bases.
1,000 lighthouses, the entire portfolio. Even Peggy's Cove was sold off.
Agriculture Canada experimental farms and research stations.

Canada should not be a Dominion.
The word "Dominion" means "territory of a sovereign or government; a colony".

The privatization of Canada's military bases.

CFB Rockcliffe Ottawa, 1983.
My Dad is in front of the Lansdowne Barracks, Ottawa during World War 11.
The former Windsor Ontario armoury.
At least 14 Canadian military bases; armouries; the Diefenbunkers; the Pinetree Line and Veteran's Hospitals have been privatized.
The Canadian Forces Base Rockcliffe should have been transformed into a National Memorial Park or a National Veterans Park. Instead, most of the land will be sold to real estate entities, and a few plaques will commemorate the history of the site. CFB Rockcliffe was sacred ground, in my opinion.
American President Bill Clinton approved the closure of 130 American domestic military bases in 1993; he called the scheme to demilitarize the United States "defence conversion". Major corporations and billionaires profited from this "conversion"---the Walt Disney Corporation and Star Wars creator George Lucas bought land at San Francisco's massive Presidio military base, and Packard Bell converted an army depot in Sacramento, California into a computer assembly factory. The rich and famous can escape to their underground bunkers during times of conflict, or fly to Antarctica. Or maybe they'll create colonies on Mars, courtesy of Elon Musk. There is a reason why certain individuals receive billions of dollars in grants from the American government; the so-called elite (politicians, royalty, corporate barons) will live distant planets, not average citizens.

Similarities between Alcatraz and the Kingston Pen.

One million people visit Alcatraz every year, and the Kingston Pen is a popular tourist venue.

Alcatraz is an American National Historic Landmark. The Pen was a National Historic Site of Canada and a Classified Federal Heritage Building.

In 2008 the Alcatraz penitentiary faced demolition. Kingston Pen faces the removal of eleven buildings to make room for high rise condominiums and townhouses.
Alcatraz was built on a huge limestone rock, hence the nickname "The Rock". KP was constructed with limestone, by inmates. Several other buildings in the Village of Portsmouth, Kingston were built by inmates using limestone:
The Prison for Women
Church of the Good Thief
Rockwood Asylum
Isabel McNeill House
Penitentiary Museum
Penitentiary Water Tower

The two prisons were film locations:
Alcatraz
The Rock - starring Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris.
Escape from Alcatraz - Clint Eastwood
Point Blank - Lee Marvin

Kingston Pen
The last scene of the first Superman movie.
Alias Grace, adapted from a Margaret Atwood novel.

Update - Downsview Park in Toronto, Ontario.

1.Centennial College created a satellite campus in the former de Havilland Aircraft Building at 65 Carl Hall Road, Toronto. Canada Lands Company leased the building to the College, and the College has to pay for the restoration of 65 Carl Hall Road including outdoor work areas on the tarmac and surface parking.
2.Ward 9 - North York councillor Maria Augimeri found out through a source that Canada Lands Company has asked city officials to revisit the park's official plan, allowing for 10,000 residential units on the land.
Maria Augimeri:
"They already have permission for 10,000 units, 25,000 new people. How much more does their greed call for?"
The City of Toronto and the Ontario Municipal Board approved the updated Official Plan, which will permit more residential construction.

3. Aviation buildings located at 40 and 60 Carl Hall Road will be deconstructed. Partial deconstruction of 75 Carl Hall Road will be permitted to build a hockey arena.

The Government of Ontario and UNESCO can preserve the Kingston Provincial Campus.

The Ontario Heritage Act designated three landscapes in Kingston, Ontario Heritage Conservation Districts:
Market Square
Barriefield Village
Old Sydenham

"The Ontario Heritage Act"
  • It's purpose: to give municipalities and the provincial government powers to preserve the heritage of Ontario.
  • It's primary focus: to protect heritage properties and archaeological sites.
  • Important provisions: It also mandates a Crown agency-Ontario Heritage Trust- and the Conservation Review Board-a tribunal that hears objections to municipal objections under the Act.
The Old Don Jail in Toronto was slated for demolition, before community groups became involved and saved the prison. Now the Don Jail is open to the public, and the building is a filming location for movies and television programs including "Suits".
The Kingston Provincial Campus is a Cultural Heritage Landscape, because the Rockwood Hospital, Rockwood Villa, gazebo and several other irreplaceable buildings are located on the site. The Ontario government agency that privatizes provincially owned land and buildings is selling the campus.
If the property becomes a UNESCO Cultural Landscape, the entire site that is currently being sold will be untouchable:
UNESCO, A UNITED NATIONS AGENCY
Designated cultural landscape
"-Garden and parkland landscape, often associated with religious or other monumental buildings..."

Rockwood Asylum is a monumental building, in my opinion, built by Kingston Penitentiary inmates; and housed by prisoners who were too mentally unstable to be incarcerated at the Pen. Constructed with limestone, Rockwood will last for thousands of years. The limestone Great Pyramid of Giza is 4,000 years old, and the foundation of the Parthenon in Athens is limestone. Infrastructure Ontario calls empty hospitals and jails "ghost buildings" and they are all endangered, the focus of redevelopment or destruction.
