"Symbols are important---they unite a country and give people a sense of nationalism, a sense of pride and continuity. I feel a sense of loss when Canada's Maple Leaf Flag and Coat of Arms are stripped from government buildings. We are losing our sense of identity, our collective soul, when traditions become obsolete, when landmarks are leveled or sold to foreigners.
