The City of Toronto and the Ontario Heritage Trust saved a prison chapel.

The Mayor of Toronto wrote letters to the Canada Lands Company and James Inglis Limited:

To designate the property at 20 Strachan Avenue (Central Prison Chapel) as being of architectural and historical value or interest. (Passed - August 12, 1996.)

We still have time to save the Kingston Penitentiary.

Kingston Penitentiary, 560 King Street West Kingston, Ontario.

According to an Internet website called "The Federal Directory of Real Property", the Government of Canada still owned the Kingston Penitentiary in the year 2017. Letters have to be written to politicians, and petitions have to be signed to prevent this property from falling into the hands of the Canada Lands Company.
Once the CLC acquires the title to a federal property, it is almost impossible for the government to repossess it:
     "If social forces can become involved before federal property is transferred to Canada Lands, there is a greater likelihood of influence over the ultimate disposal, since it remains in the sphere of public demands upon government. Once Canada Lands Company has title the issue shifts to a business model; Canada Lands must operate according to commercial principles.

A Tale of Two Experimental Farms 
Ravenwood Farm and Upton Farm, Agriculture Canada Experiential Farms located in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
 Federal Minister of Agriculture Gerry Ritz and PEI politicians saved the Ravenwood Experimental Farm in Charlottetown.

However, Upton Farm was already owned by the CLC by the time time local citizens began protesting. Kristen Connor wrote to the prime minister of Canada, and received a letter from a federal minister:
     "They informed me that they were only policy directors of Canada Lands. Canada Lands is an independent organization that they cannot interfere with under any circumstances." (Kristen Connor interview with David Bulger, "Sites of Governance:Multilevel Governing and Policy Making in Canada" Page 65).

Is the Canada Lands Company more powerful than the Prime Minister of Canada, more influential than the Members of Parliament whom we elect to represent our interests?
Does the term "arms-length Crown corporation" mean that the Canada Lands Company is not accountable to the citizens of Canada? Crown land is collectively owned by the citizens of this country and we have every right to be consulted before our land is privatized, and to veto any plans that are not acceptable. (Including the construction of 25-storey condominium towers, new parking lots and roads.)
 Charlottetown Member of Parliament Shawn Murphy called for an 18-month moratorium on the redevelopment of Upton Farm. By the fall of 2006, the CLC was consulting developers, and Charlottetown City Council approved the rezoning of the property for residential development.
 Kristen Connor said that the CLC held public consultations, but the meetings always centered around the fact that subdivisions would be created.

Preserving the Kingston Penitentiary is not an option for the CLC, because Canada Lands is a commercial Crown corporation. They have to build high rise condominiums and townhouses in Kingston in order to make a profit, even if that means demolishing buildings, guard towers and perimeter walls at the penitentiary.

  

Rochdale College was way ahead of its time.

     The college's curriculum and New Age philosophy were too avant garde for the 1970's.
My personal experience with Rochdale College.
My first impression of Rochdale was negative. Two of my brothers happened to live on the sixth floor of the college in 1970; one night my mother received a frantic phone call from one of my brothers, apparently he was being held against his will, and needed my mother's help to escape. The next morning my mother and I traveled from Brockville, Ontario to Toronto on a Canadian National Railway train. My mother was quite confrontational at Rochdale's front desk, she demanded to see "her boys" and said that she would contact "a higher authority" if her boys were not presented. Suffice to say, my mother, brothers and I trooped back to Union Station to begin the endless train journey to Brockville, the trip was a milk run that stopped at every village, town and city between T.O. and Brockville. I am sure that Rochdale College was more than happy to release "the boys" to their long-suffering mother.

     Only recently have I rediscovered Rochdale, the dream that turned into nightmare. The units were given names:

In my opinion, Rochdale was comparable to the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. Esalen is a non-profit retreat that focuses on humanistic and alternative education. Guest teachers who lectured at the Esalen Institute:
