What lies beneath.

Underground tunnels in Canadian public buildings:
1.)  A tunnel connected Union Station to the Chateau Laurier Hotel in Ottawa and it has been blocked off because the hotel is private property. During the 1980's the passageway was painted white and it was so wide you could drive a vehicle through it.
2.)  The Kingston Pen and Prison for Women are still connected.
3.)  Toronto's Union Station and the Royal York Hotel. The tunnel is probably blocked off because the City of Toronto bought the Station and the Royal York is a Fairmont investment.
4.)  The Palliser Hotel in Calgary and the CPR train station. The station was torn down so that the Calgary Tower could be constructed on the land. The CPR and Husky Oil Company built the Calgary Tower. Possible names for the landmark were:

  • Sky Deck
  • Sky Tower
  • Sky Spire
  • Sky High Tower
  • High Tower
  • Arial Tower
  • Arial Spire
  • Space Deck (information is from the book "Unbuilt Calgary" by Stephanie White, page 34.)
5.)  Hotel Fort Garry in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Union Station.
6.)  A labyrinth of tunnels were beneath the Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan station.
7.)  The Bessborough Hotel in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Union Station.
8.)  The Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton, Alberta and Union Station.
There are rumours that the Kingston Pen and Rockwood Asylum are connected. Rockwood and the Pen were both constructed by penitentiary inmates using limestone. The real estate arm of the province of Ontario is currently selling Rockwood and the surrounding 122 acres of land.
The old Royal Ottawa on Carling was a psychiatric hospital.
ROH - Royal Ottawa Hospital.
P4W - Prison for Women.
The Big House, KP and The Pen - Kingston Penitentiary.
Disneyland North - Collins Bay Institution.
