s.) Central Experimental Farm - Ottawa, Ontario. During the year 1988 the Mulroney government sold 91 acres of the Farm to the Municipality of Ottawa. The City then sold the land to a developer who created a subdivision called "Central Park." Now the National Capital Commission and a provincial MP want to see a new Civic Hospital built on the Farm---where the Sir John Carling Building used to be, and near the Dow's Lake Pavilion and Commissioners Park. Commissioners Park is a national site that honours Canadian soldiers, and was visited by Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands and her husband.
A new Civic Hospital near Dow's Lake and the Park will destroy the peace and tranquility of the site, which is a major tourist attraction and sacred ground. I can just imagine the noise pollution that will be created by a new hospital; the light pollution; the noise from helicopters landing on the roof...I take bus rides past the Queensway Carleton Hospital, with its enormous parking lots, and on-going construction during the spring and summer.
