2.) Once the Government of Canada transfers a property to the Canada Lands Company, the edifice or landscape loses all heritage protection and designation---as a National Historic Site of Canada; Classified Federal Heritage Building or Recognized Federal Heritage Building. Designation by provincial or municipal governments will not save a landmark, because federal laws supercede provincial and local laws. That is why condos will be constructed on a demolished Kingston Penitentiary; the Kingston Prison for Women and the Saint Vincent de Paul Penitentiary, Laval Quebec.
3.) The taxpayers of Canada are paying for the environmental remediation of properties transferred to the CLC---$5 million dollars are currently being spent to make the land in Shannon Park, Nova Scotia pristine for condominium developers. Corrections Canada paid for the environmental cleanup of land surrounding the Kingston Pen.
4.) Politicians and neighbourhood associations have been fighting the Canada Lands Company for twenty years regarding the future of CFB Downsview. The Jean Chretien government promised that much of the land on the decommissioned military base in Toronto, Ontario would be an urban park.
5.) The ultimate goal of the Crown corporation is to privatize all federal property in Canada.

6.) The Fraser Institute wants to see the denationalization of National Parks; Vancouver's "Canada Place" with its iconic white sails; Canada Post; CMHC; Veteran's hospitals, etc. In the article "Time to Privatize" the Fraser Institute concluded that the CN Tower in Toronto should be sold by the CLC:
Parks Canada should transfer all the National Parks in British Columbia to the BC Provincial Government, (Fraser Institute.) |
The La Ronde amusement park at Expo 67.
12 military bases
armouries in Ottawa; Montreal; Windsor
18 Experimental Farms. 91 acres of Ottawa's Central Experimental Farm were sold during the year 1988. The CLC is now selling the Jean-Charles Chapais Experimental Farm, Levis, Quebec.
Greenbelt Land that surrounds Ottawa; the Greenbelt was created to honour Canadians who lost their lives fighting in foreign wars. The National Capital Commission should be a protector of federal land; a gatekeeper, not a lackey for the real estate industry. The City of Ottawa has earmarked 18,000 acres of Greenbelt land that should be commercialized.

Ottawa government buildings and land that will be sold in the future, in my opinion:
The Tunney's Pasture campus.
The Confederation Heights campus.
RCMP Complex - 1200 Vanier Parkway.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Headquarters - 1500 Bronson Avenue - now vacant.
The former American Embassy on Wellington Street, across from the Parliament Buildings - now vacant.
Revenue Canada Headquarters , 555 Mackenzie Avenue - The Connaught Building resembles a castle.
Library and Archives Canada - Wellington Street. Apparently a new Library and Archives complex will be constructed on LeBreton Flats. The LAC building has high ceilings and marble floors and staircases- perfect for high-end condos for the super rich and retired politicians.
