The land was owned by the real estate arm of the Canadian Pacific Railway Marathon Realty. During the early 1970's local residents fought a proposal by Marathon Realty to demolish the train station and build hundreds of houses on the site, a book entitled
"Marlborough Marathon: One Street Against a Developer" by J.L Granatstein documents the community's efforts.
Marathon also wanted to flatten Toronto's Union Station and Montreal's Windsor Station.
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes or a metastasizing cancer, plans again are underway to redevelop the land surrounding Summerhill Station:
