Why were so many train station properties converted to liquor stores?

In 1959 the CNR sold the train station in Kearney, Ontario to a provincial Crown corporation that sells liquor, the LCBO.
160 Nicholas Street, Ottawa was a CNR building.
At least the following buildings are still standing:
380 York Street, Fredericton, New Brunswick. CNR and VIA.
Angus Shops Montreal CPR.
The centre part of Jean Talon Station Montreal sold alcohol.CPR.
Summerhill CPR station, North Toronto.

Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
